Dr. Beckett came to Salem as our Senior Pastor in March of 1999 from Dallas, Texas.

Family: Married to Kathy since 1982, four children, Audrey, who graduated from UNC in 2010, Allison graduated from NC State in 2012, and Amy will graduate from Appalachian State in 2017.  Their son, Lucas, studies musical theater at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.  Here are some "interesting," important, and occasionally useless bits of info:

Testimony: I put my faith in Christ at the age of seven, while living in Paris, Texas. I was baptized in the Spring of 1970 at the First Baptist Church of Paris, Texas. I had wonderful and godly parents who raised me to value God and faith and ministry. My first big job in ministry was as a kid, assisting my parents with a bus route, picking up kids from all over Paris and bringing them to church. I have pretty much been in ministry ever since. Though I accepted Christ so long ago, and never really knew the world without Christ, the decision to make Jesus my Lord is still fresh and obviously the best decision I ever made in my life!

Education: I did my undergraduate work at East Texas State University (now Texas A&M, Commerce) in Political Science and History, and my Masters in Theology and Doctoral work at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft Worth, TX. My doctoral focus was in Church Growth and Missions.

Previous Lines of Work: I worked for gas money as a carpenter during my high school years and I taught and coached in a AAA High School in East Texas in 1984–5, to give my wife time to graduate before we headed off to Grad School in Ft. Worth. I have served in Pastoral ministry and as a Church Planter since 1981 in Paris, TX, Hewitt, TX, Dallas, TX and now Apex, NC with only a brief break during seminary.
