Salem Children's Soccer League

Salem Children's Soccer League runs in both spring and fall and is made up of co-ed teams for children ages 3–11 years old. All games are played on the soccer fields at Salem Baptist Church. The teams are grouped into 6 divisions: U4, U6, U8, U10, U12, and U-Can-Play (for players with special needs). Team assignments for U8, U10, and U12 are decided by the results of registration and evaluation day outcomes to make teams of similar ages and skill levels. Every practice/game begins with prayer and each practice will include a devotion.

We have limited slots available for all divisions except U4.  If you are interested in participating in the Spring 2018 season, please contact Chris.

  • U4 (age 3): Practices/games are Saturday mornings: 45 minute practices with games possible towards end of season.  A parent/guardian for each child will need to attend each practice.
  • U6 (ages 4–5): Practices/games are Saturday mornings: 30 minute practice, 25 minute game.
  • U8 (ages 6–7): Practices are Tuesday nights, games are Saturday mornings with possible Tuesday evening games.
  • U10 (ages 8–9): Practices are Thursday nights, games are Saturday mornings with possible Thursday evening games.
  • U12 (ages 10–11): Practices are Thursday nights, games are Saturday mornings/early afternoons with possible Thursday evening games times.
  • U-Can-Play (special needs children through age 12): Practices/games are Monday nights. Registration includes additional equipment for players using wheelchairs.

To help achieve parity and evenness between teams within a division ...

  • We will conduct player evaluations for players in the U8, U10, and U12 divisions
  • We will use the following guidelines for team assignments:
    • Siblings will be placed on the same team (unless otherwise requested)
    • Coaches will have their child(ren) assigned to their team
      • Up to 2 coaches may request to coach together and have their child(ren) placed on the same team
    • Hardship issues reviewed and approved by the league directors
    • Data from evaluations and past knowledge of player skills
    • Special requests made during registration will only be granted IF they allow parity/evenness to be maintained.  **Please note this change!**

Practices/Games/Player Participation - U8, U10, U12

  • Practices are important to gain skills, discuss strategies, enable team building, and prepare for game days.  They are also the time that league devotions are reviewed and discussed with players.
  • Players should make every effort to attend as many full practices as possible.  We understand things come up and absences happen but this should be the exception rather than the norm.  Players missing practice should get the devotion from the coach for review at home.
  • If a player is missing practice on a regular basis there will be a conversation with the family to discuss the situation and potential impacts to the players availability/playing time during games.  We strongly encourage families who foresee regular practice attendance issues to discuss the situation with the league directors prior to registration.
